A 2-month-old baby has been recovered by rescuers as police attached to the Ughelli Area Command have arrested a man suspected to has allegedly stolen the baby in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspect identified as Lucky had allegedly entered the bedroom where the two months and two weeks old baby identified Eric Oghenevwede Oghenekparobo was sleeping.
Sources said, “The suspect was given a hot chase after an alarm was raised by the the mother, Mrs Oke Oghenekparobo who sighted the strange man coming out her bedroom with the baby.
“She has to raise alarm which attracted neighbors who gave the suspect a hot chase before he was eventually apprehended by neighbors and mobs from the area.
The Mother, Mrs Oke Oghenekparobo 28, filled with tears said, “I saw the man coming out our house with my son and being that I never knew him, I have to raise alarm.
“Immediately I raised the alarm, he dropped my son to escape, he jumped over a fence and he was followed to the latter where he was apprehended by neighbors.
“I am currently short of words as I could not explain what actually happened at that very point but it was my consciousness that gave me the courage to raise the alarm”.she narrated.
Another source who spoke to newsmen said, “When I apprehended the suspect, he told that he is not the person, rather the suspect has escaped not until one of the youths in the area identified him as the culprit.
“He has already deceived me to release him if not for those that recognized him but I am glad he was noticed and I was joined to get him apprehended.
“Before he was rescued by the police, he was boasting that nothing will happen to him that the police won’t do him anything as he will be released immediately he got to the station.”
The suspect claimed to be innocent of the allegations disclosed that he came to visit his friend who is bricklayer in the area before he was being accused of child theft.
He said, “People know me and I am from Otovwodo, I am a father and there is no reason why I will go and tell another person’s child.”
The timely arrival of Police attached to the Ughelli Area Command saved him from being set ablaze by the angry mobs
